A little about me!

Welcome back to my blog & hello if you are new!!!

For those who don't know my name is Marissa but I go by Missy! I work at Empire Beauty Studios and my business name is Missy B Beauty! I created this website for my clients and just anyone interested in becoming a client. I wanted a safe place for everyone to get to know me a little and what I'm all about.

My main goal is to provide the best service possible. It's important to me to have clients comfortable to walk in and feeling beautiful when they leave!! Aesthetics was never about the money for me, it's about taking care of my community.. Being a service provider is more to me then just come in and out. I love to chat and to get to know everyone but I can also read the room well and respect those who need a quiet, relaxing service! I hear my clients tell me how therapeutic it is to come to me and the feeling is mutual!! Connecting with clients everyday gives me more motivation and confidence to work in an industry like this.

Being a small business owner means I work by myself on all of my clients. Basically all the girls in Empire Beauty are entrepreneurs and run their own shows. We also work as a team & get along great! Empire is my home, my family and my safe place so it's important for me to have my clients feel the same.

I always had strong passion for the jobs I worked for. I tried very hard to move up no matter where I was. I started my very first job at Sportchek in British Columbia and LOVED it. I made commission my first job ever so that was a really great experience. I then worked at Metro in Ontario as a cut fruit worker where I was isolated in a room with no music cutting fruit. I begged the manager to become a cashier because I craved socialization. I remember impressing them with efficiency and pride in what I was doing!!

After experiencing that I decided to get a job at Tim Hortons in New Brunswick, I then managed the business without management pay and realized I was very good with cash management, schedule management, time management and leadership skills. Once I had enough of Tim Hortons I moved up to Starbucks! Within a year I was promoted from Barista to a black apron shift supervisor, within the next year I was considered for the assistant manager position for the new store they were building! My dream to have a coffee shop was born and I did everything I could to step up.

After soon realizing I wasn't being noticed for that extra effort I then decided to change my dreams. I always wanted to be some sort of social worker/counsellor but it was hard for me to work in that type of environment as I have a trauma of my own.. So I thought to myself. "How can I help others, but have fun with it." I thought about my lash appointments and what they meant to me. I then applied to Atlantic Aesthetics Academy, quit Starbucks and got a job at Vibrant Salon and Spa as a Receptionist. I absolutely LOVED that job, seeing all the gorgeous employees creating magic everyday really inspired me. Also getting to know how a salon works behind the scenes was such an amazing learning curve for me.

I then graduated college and placed a job with Empire Beauty Studios and ever since I did.. It completely changed my life! I love everyone I work with from both locations and I am SOOOO proud of the owners Julie & Lauren for being the youngest business owners I've ever met as well as setting the bar high for other spas and salons. They support their team by provided a safe place to work and become an entrepreneur.

We all have to start from where! I honestly look back 5-10 years from now wishing I could tell myself where this was leading me because I would have NEVER guessed I'd be where I am today!!

I also wanted to add a huge THANK YOU to ALL my clients who have supported me and my business and those who take the time to stay involved with my website and blogs!! I love to hear the feedback and see how this helps others even you are not my client, thank you.
